(Oakville, ON) March 29, 2021 – Oakville Hydro reports that during Earth Hour the Town of Oakville saved 9.3 MWh. That is 5.25% less than the same time on March 21, 2021, and is equivalent to turning off approximately 620,000 15 watt light bulbs for one hour.
“Conservation and sustainability are about so much more than shutting off the lights for one hour on one evening,” said Scott Mudie, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Conservation Officer of Oakville Hydro. “Earth Hour provides a reminder of the importance of reducing energy to combat climate change. I’m proud of Oakville’s continuous support of the global initiative, especially this year amid a pandemic. It’s our daily actions that will continue to make a positive impact for conservation.”
About Earth Hour
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet that the World Wildlife Fund (“WWF”) started in 2007 with a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide, and the one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now larger movement of stopping climate change.
