Net Metering - Greater than 10 kW

Generate Power at Your Business – Feed Power into the Grid

The Net Metering program allows customers to generate power and feed it into the grid - promoting clean, renewable energy to help support Ontario’s electricity supply. It gives you the power to better manage your energy costs. When you are producing more renewable electricity than you can use, we will take your surplus supply. In return, we will give you a credit on your bill to help pay for those times when you are not generating enough power and drawing from our grid. For more information on save on your energy bill with net metering, visit Save Your Energy Bill - Net Metering

For more information about the net metering program, please see the Ontario Regulation 541/05 - Net Metering and Ontario Regulation 274/18 – Siting Restrictions.

HOW TO APPLY

Preliminary Assessment

Interested customers are required to consult Oakville Hydro to determine whether there is sufficient distribution capacity at the proposed connection point. To start this consultation, please complete and submit Form 4 - Application for Preliminary Review. To view the approximate areas of capacity for generation within Oakville Hydro's service territory, click here.

Oakville Hydro’s Engineering Department will respond to the customer with Response to Preliminary Review Form indicating whether the connection is allowed or not.

Connection Impact Assessment (CIA)

After the preliminary consultation, complete and submit the following to apply for a Connection Impact Assessment (CIA):

The CIA will determine the impact of the embedded generator on the Oakville Hydro distribution system. If Form 6 and the single line diagram are complete, and the CIA fee has been received, Oakville Hydro will complete the assessment within 60 days. A Hydro One CIA may also be required to determine impact on their transmission system. Contact Oakville Hydro Engineering Department for further information.

Offer to Connect

If the Oakville Hydro and Hydro One CIA, if applicable, are both acceptable, Oakville Hydro will issue you an “Offer to Connect" outlining any requirements and connection fees. Payment of connection fees is required before your project can be connected to the grid.

Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) Inspection

Once construction of your project is completed, you will need a safety inspection from the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). For more information on the ESA and their processes, visit their website at this link.

Connection

Once the ESA approves your project and all electrical and metering equipment has been installed to the satisfaction of Oakville Hydro, we will connect your project within 10 business days.
